All Abilities Path for Duchess Wood

All Abilities Path for Duchess Wood

Friends of Duchess Wood want to make the Wood accessible to as many people as possible. To achieve this we want to create a circular All Abilities path around the lower part of Duchess Wood so the Wood can be accessed by wheelchair users, pushchairs and people with mobility issues, particularly the elderly. The path will go from the Car Park round to Rhu Road Higher. The path will also give access to the wildlife pond and picnic tables.

Points

This project will improve access to the Wood for people from our Community and visitors with a wide range of mobility restrictions. It will enable them to enjoy exercise and recreation in a tranquil environment with an abundance of wildlife close to the town. This project will have both mental and physical health and well being benefits

Looks to be a great project. What surface will the path have?

The surface will be constructed from compacted hard core with a layer of rolled whin dust to a give weather resistant smooth finish. A very slight camber will ensure the rain water runs off the path.

All in favour of accessibility - also love the bits of the wood that are left wild-ish. something for everyone!

First class idea.😊

This is a great idea! I have so many happy memories of playing in Duchess Wood with my grandfather (nearly 40 years ago). It would be wonderful for as many people as possible to have access!

Fantastic idea, really hope this comes to happen. Very difficult for wheelchair uses to be anywhere with nature

Brilliant idea :)

I would love to see an all-abilities path so that my mum (who walks with a stick) could join me to walk the dog. She loves the woods but the accessible places are very limited for her.

An excellent opportunity to enable less able people to have access to the wood.

Excellent idea for all not just walkers. Hope it gets approval.

People I know will be delighted to be able to return to the woods from which disabilities have lately excluded them. David Reid

This is a very welcome project that I hope will be supported. Improving accessibility as proposed will make it possible for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy this wonderful local area.

Great idea. Important for the community that if at all possible all users are given the ability to enjoy this beautiful area.

This is a brilliant facility ...brings joy and pleasure to so many ...all improvements will be welcomed by so many people ...the volunteers deserve this support...they are the heart and soul of the community and deserve support from us all and especially our local authority

The wood was transformed when the paths were made 10+ years ago and they now need renewed in places. The hundreds of regular users would benefit and those currently put off by the muddy entrances could regain access.

Argyll and Bute TSI will hold a drop in help session on Wednesday (10th January) from 10am-12pm and 1-3pm in the Helensburgh office at 14 Colquhoun Square. If you would like help with the stage 2 application pop in and see us (we will have a cuppa and biscuits on hand too...)
