What was the nature of their innovation and how did it contribute to humankind? Amit Bhaduri is well-known for his work on several important topics including capital and growth theory, Keynesian and Post-Keynesian macroeconomics, and development economics. He has been a consistent critic of mainstream neoclassical theory and corporate-led growth strategies. His contribution as an economic theorist lies in analyzing the role of power in the market economy in a precise and compelling way. He has articulated various alternative development strategies that seek to mobilize the strengths of the poor and disenfranchised population. He has published more than 60 papers in leading international journals and has written over a dozen books, including The Economic Structure of Backward Agriculture, An Intelligent Person’s Guide to Liberalization, and Essays in the Reconstruction of Poliltical Economy. Already a recipient of the Leontief Prize for Advancing the Frontiers of Economic Thought, it would be appropriate to honor him with a ‘Not the Nobel Award’.
