José Antonio Ocampo

What was the nature of their innovation and how did it contribute to humankind? José Antonio Ocampo’s numerous articles, books, and reports have made major contributions to development scholarship, and policy. He is a leading thinker on the reform of the international financial architecture and on macroeconomic policies to reduce the vulnerability of developing countries to international financial volatility. He has worked in the United Nations, as Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs and as Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and held several cabinet-level government posts in his native Colombia. His many books include Globalization and Development: A Latin American and Caribbean Perspective, Regional Financial Cooperation, and a volume on Capital Market Liberalization and Development. Already a recipient of the Leontief Prize for Advancing the Frontiers of Economic Thought, it would be appropriate to honor him with a ‘Not the Nobel Award’.
