Introduce beavers to tributaries of the Thames

Beavers are being reintroduced in other areas of the country to prevent flooding and increase biodiversity.

Points

Beavers carry out engineering projects for free that would otherwise be hugely expensive! Their leaky dams slow water flow, create ponds, prevent erosion of river banks and collect the soil (silt) that would otherwise be lost downstream. The channels they create keep surrounding vegetation healthy and green in dry weather. And the habitats they create attract a great variety of wildlife.
