Points

So much has been destroyed by ill-thought-through development that we need to preserve what remains.

The conservation of grand old buildings is well established but it is also important to pay attention to small less obviously important buildings as they also provide links to our past. We should be wary of wanton destruction - often just because an idea is fashionable - eg it was fashionable in the 1960s to remove Victorian fireplaces from houses - they are now sought-after features of older houses. Old buildings are part of a rich visual tapestry providing a town with variety and interest.
